As preparations have not yet been finalised by the authorities, producers and traders, the EU Parliament decided at the end of December 2024 to postpone the application date of the EUDR by one year. The Deforestation Directive shall therefore be applied by large companies from 30 December 2025 and by SMEs from 30 June 2026.
What does the postponement mean for us?
Even though the application date has been postponed, compliance with the EUDR will remain a key issue for all companies in the VEMAG Group in the coming months. We are continuing to work at full speed in close cooperation with our suppliers and our software provider to implement the necessary evidence and due diligence obligations.
Status Quo
We identified the requirements for our company resulting from the EUDR as early as mid-2024 and have been preparing intensively for this ever since, to be able to fulfil them in full. Since then, our expertise in all aspects of the EUDR has grown considerably in all affected areas of the company (purchasing, production, IT, sustainability management, product development, logistics, legal).
At the same time, together with industry representatives, we campaigned in various ways for a postponement of the application date of the EUDR in 2024 and presented the arguments in favour of this in a transparent manner. We are therefore pleased that the postponement will give us time to refine our solutions and ensure that all the necessary new workflows function optimally.
What does the postponement mean for you?
1. As our customer, we will provide you with the reference and verification numbers required for placing our products on the market in good time and in a format that suits you.
2. We are continuing the implementation of our ESG software osapiens at full speed. At the same time, as an FSC-certified company since 2011, we are closely monitoring developments of FSC Trace. We are confident that the FSC, as an experienced partner to all those involved in the process, will be able to provide a tool that enables the necessary geodata to be passed on in good time.
3. As in previous months, we are still interested in an intensive dialogue with you. Our sustainability team will continue to help answer any questions and help with your requirements. Our aim is to work with you to find the best possible solution.
